Wolves defender Toti out for up to four weeks with hamstring injury

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be without defender Toti for three to four weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Head coach Vitor Pereira revealed the lay-off in post-match broadcast interviews following the 2-2 draw at Tottenham this afternoon.

Toti missed the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium while key forward Matheus Cunha was substituted at half-time after reporting soreness in a muscle.

Jorgen Strand Larsen was one of Wolves’ half-time replacements and scored a dramatic late equaliser..

“Cunha at half time spoke with me and told me, ‘coach I felt something during the first half and now I’m afraid to speed up’,” Pereira told his post-match news conference.

“When I need to speed up or I need to make a sprint, I don’t feel confident for this. It’s better to stay out of the game.’ He told me, and I respect that. Maybe it’s not serious, I hope but I don’t know.”

Cunha is also facing the prospect of an imminent FA suspension after being charged with misconduct following his clash with an Ipswich staff member following Wolves’ 2-1 defeat in former boss Gary O’Neil’s final game in charge.

“We know Cunha is a very important player for us but I must find in the squad players – and we have players who can do it – with other skills and qualities,” said Pereria.

“They can do it, for sure.”

Midfielder Andre also limped off in the second half while Strand Larsen and Goncalo Guedes were left out of the starting XI to protect injuries.

“Andre was the third game in a row, in my experience the third game always brings surprises,” said Pereira.

“That’s why we didn’t start with Larsen, he complained a bit with something in his hamstrings.

“We didn’t start with Guedes because it was a long time without playing and a third game in a row is a problem most of the time.”
