Former LSU standout Kyren Lacy is facing criminal complaints of negligent homicide and felony hit and run after a fatal car crash last month.
Louisiana State Police announced Friday that a warrant has been issued for Lacy’s arrest. The wide receiver and his legal team are working with police to turn himself in, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police.
According to the state police, Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger around noon on Dec. 17 when he “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed” while crossing the centerline in a no-passing zone. Police said Lacy’s driving forced the driver of a Kia to swerve left to avoid a crash, but that evasive move took the Kia into another lane and caused a head-on collision. One passenger, a 78-year-old man, was killed.
Troopers said in a news release that following the crash, Lacy left the scene. Additionally, Lacy also faces a complaint of reckless operation of a vehicle.
Lacy, 24, joined the Tigers in 2022 after two seasons at Louisiana Lafayette. The Thibodaux, La., native led LSU with nine touchdown receptions this season. He was second on the team in catches (58) and yards (866). He opted out of the Texas Bowl as he prepared for the NFL Draft.
