Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Is Only Two Years Away

We’ve been waiting. And waiting. It seems appropriate that Emmet Asher-Perrin’s review of the second Spider-Verse movie, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, had the headline “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Will Make Us Respect Cliffhangers Again.” We have been respecting! Since 2023!

And in 2027, we’ll find out what happens next. At CinemaCon, producer Phil Lord said, “It’s going to be a massive finale to the trilogy.” Variety quotes Lord and co-directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson as saying, “We know how important this franchise is to so many people around us. We just could not run it back.”

Audiences at CinemaCon, a gathering for theater owners, got a first look at the movie, which presumably continues to follow Miles Morales and a whole bunch of other Spider-folks from across the multiverse. The footage reportedly shows Miles (Shameik Moore) wanting to do things his way, complaining “Everyone keeps telling me how my story is supposed to go.”

As Variety notes, “Plot details for the third haven’t been revealed but the story presumably involves Miles Morales facing an existential crisis.” [ed. note: LOL]

The third film is written by Lord and Chris Miller, who created this Spider-trilogy. Miles and his Spider-friends will return to screens on June 4, 2027.
