Southampton reach agreement in principle for signing of Peterborough's Ronnie Edwards

Southampton have reached an agreement in principle with Peterborough United for the signing of central defender Ronnie Edwards.

A fee of in the region of £3million plus add-ons and a sell-on clause have been agreed, and he is set to sign a four-year deal with an option of a further year to keep him at the club until 2028.

The club are just finalising details on the structure of the deal and Edwards is now undergoing his medical today (June 2).

The Athletic reported in last week’s DealSheet Peterborough were engaged in negotiations with an unnamed Premier League club over the transfer of the Edwards and would not stand in his way if their valuation was met.

The 21-year-old England youth international has one year remaining on his Peterborough contract.

Edwards joined Peterborough from Barnet in 2020 and has gone on to make 142 appearances for the club, including 55 last season.

Southampton are preparing for a return to the Premier League next season after securing promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking via the play-offs last term.
