Neymar joining Inter Miami 'impossible' due to MLS salary cap – Javier Mascherano

Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano has said it is “impossible” for the club to sign Neymar due to the salary cap in MLS.

Mascherano’s comments come in the same week that Al Hilal forward Neymar said it would be “incredible” to reunite with his former Barcelona team-mates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, who are both at Miami.

The trio of South American forward formed the ‘MSN’ attack at the Catalan club between 2014 and 2017, when Neymar joined Paris Saint-Germain. The 32-year-old Brazilian said this week it would be “interesting to revive this trio” but Mascherano, who was part of the same Barcelona team, has played down the suggestion.

“We cannot talk about Ney because we have nothing,” Mascherano, 40, told an MLS media day in Miami, as cited by Reuters.

“Obviously Ney is a great player. Every coach in the world wants him but at the moment, but you know the MLS rules around the salary cap. So for us in this moment, it’s impossible to try to think about him.”

Neymar joined Al Hilal in the summer of 2023 but has played just seven games for the club, scoring once, having ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus in his left knee while playing for Brazil in October of that year.
