Netflix releasing Paris Olympics basketball docuseries, 'Court of Gold,' in February

Basketball fans can relive the men’s basketball tournament at the Paris Olympics in a six-part docuseries called “Court of Gold” when it comes to Netflix in February.

The series follows the U.S., Canada, France and Serbia in their quests to win gold. Netflix announced the series Thursday with a trailer, showing interviews from Kevin Durant (Team USA), Victor Wembanyama (France), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Canada), Team USA coach Steve Kerr, President Barack Obama and more.

“Court of Gold,” which will be released on Feb. 18, will provide behind-the-scenes access to each team’s journey in the Olympics and explore the high level of competition in global basketball.

The series also features interviews with current Olympians Steph Curry (U.S.), Rudy Gobert (France) and Bogdan Bogdanović (Serbia), as well as others including former Olympians Dwyane Wade (U.S.), Tony Parker (France) and Carmelo Anthony (U.S.), according to Netflix’s fan site, Tudum. Notably, it does not list Team USA and Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James as an interviewee.

“Court of Gold” was produced by Olympic Channel, Higher Ground Productions and Words + Pictures Production, and was directed by Jake Rogal, a producer for “The Last Dance.” Barack and Michelle Obama are among the executive producers listed on the project.

Last summer, the U.S. won its fifth consecutive gold medal in men’s basketball in a 98-87 victory over France. Curry drained four crucial 3-pointers with less than 3 minutes to go, including the game-clincher with 33 seconds left. He finished the game with 24 points, while Durant and Devin Booker posted 15 each and James had 14.

Wembanyama, the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year who grew up near Paris, recorded 26 points and seven rebounds in the loss for France.
