The Premier League game between Liverpool and Manchester United will go ahead as planned.
Severe weather conditions on Merseyside overnight on Saturday and into Sunday had sparked fears it could go the way the of Merseyside derby in December and be called off on the day.
However, following safety meetings on Sunday morning the game will go ahead as scheduled at Anfield with kick-off at 4.30pm GMT (11.30am ET).
Heavy snowfall in Liverpool and the surrounding area has caused widespread disruption, with the city’s John Lennon Airport temporarily closing its runway due to the icy conditions while trains in and out of Liverpool Lime Street station have been significantly impacted.
Liverpool head into the meeting with United with the chance to move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League. Arsenal’s draw at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday evening left them five points behind in second, with Arne Slot’s side having two games in hand.
For United, the trip to Anfield is an opportunity to arrest an alarming run of form which has seen them lose five of their last six matches. They currently sit 14th in the Premier League, just seven points above the relegation zone.
