Liverpool set to sign Rio Ngumoha, 15, from Chelsea

Liverpool are set to complete the signing of England Under-16 international Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea.

The 15-year-old attacker’s move to Merseyside is subject to Premier League approval.

Ngumoha is expected to initially link up with Liverpool Under-18s but he will not be able to train or play until the paperwork is processed.

He accepted Liverpool’s offer of a scholarship after deciding to leave Chelsea’s academy. The pathway available for young players at Liverpool was key to his decision having seen the opportunities given to the likes of Jarell Quansah, Conor Bradley, Jayden Danns, James McConnell, Bobby Clark and Lewis Koumas last season.

Chelsea will be entitled to compensation to cover his training and development costs, but it is a major coup for Liverpool to secure the services of one of the biggest talents from the England Under-16s.

Ngumoha was named player of the tournament when Chelsea Under-16s were crowned national champions last October and in January, his progress was rewarded with a debut for Chelsea Under-21s.

Chelsea have been approached for comment.
