Kylian Mbappe says he has played last Champions League game for PSG… this season

Kylian Mbappe refused to confirm whether he had played his last Champions League tie at Paris Saint-Germain after their semi-final second leg defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Mbappe announced in February that he would be leaving PSG on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer.

Real Madrid are the firm favourites to sign him but no details of Mbappe’s destination have yet been confirmed.

The 25-year-old striker helped PSG win another Ligue 1 title this season and still has the French Cup final to play against Lyon on May 25, where victory would earn him an 11th domestic major trophy.

But European success has proved elusive, with Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Dortmund – sealing a 2-0 aggregate defeat – ensuring he never realised the club’s dream of winning the Champions League.

When asked whether he had played his last European game for PSG, he replied: “This season, that’s sure, it would have to be.

“As I said before we are very disappointed. We wanted to win, we had the ingredients to win, but as I said, in a Champions League match, it is necessary to be efficient in the box. We were not efficient in the two games.”

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi gave his backing to coach Luis Enrique, despite PSG falling short again in Europe’s top competition.

Asked by media if there was now doubts over the Spaniard’s future, he said: “Are you serious with that question? Do you not understand football?

“Our goal was really to go to the final, even further, but we are proud. We had the youngest team in Europe, we made three semi-finals in five years, even if our goal does not stop there.”
