Kadeisha Buchanan signs Chelsea contract extension

Kadeisha Buchanan has signed a contract extension at Chelsea through to 2027.

The Canada international, 29, has won two Women’s Super League (WSL) titles in her two seasons at the club as well as an FA Cup and a League Cup.

Former Lyon defender Buchanan is currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained in November.

“I am really excited to have extended my contract here at Chelsea,” Buchanan said, via a news release. “The club has turned into family, and I feel settled in the country and the league as well.

“I can’t wait to get back out there with the team to achieve what we aim to accomplish every single season and more.

Paul Green, Chelsea’s head of women’s football, added: “We are delighted Kadeisha has extended her deal with the club. Kadeisha was showing some of the best form of her Chelsea career prior to her injury this season and we look forwarding to seeing her return to action next season.”

Buchanan joins fellow central defender Millie Bright and midfielder Erin Cuthbert in renewing contracts in recent months.

She made her international debut aged 18, has been named Canada’s Player of the Year on three occasions and was part of the side that won Olympic gold in 2021.

Buchanan was a five-time Champions League winner with Lyon before her move to Kingsmeadow in 2022.

Chelsea are chasing a quadruple of trophies this season, including the Champions League where they face reigning champions Barcelona in the semi-finals.
