Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence will miss Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings because of a serious AC joint sprain in his shoulder, team sources said.
The injury could sideline Lawrence for the rest of the season, according to those sources. The quarterback is still gathering information about his options.
With Lawrence out, Mac Jones is expected to start at quarterback against Minnesota.
Lawrence, 25, started 59 of 60 games since Jacksonville picked him No. 1 in the 2021 NFL Draft. He and Jacksonville have struggled to a 2-7 start this season, with Lawrence’s completion percentage (61.3) and yards per game (222.7) being his worst since his rookie season.
He reached a five-year, $275 million contract extension with Jacksonville in June.

Jones, 26, was selected 14 picks after Lawrence in 2021 by the New England Patriots. He’s now poised to make his first Jaguars start after starting 42 games over three seasons for New England. The Patriots traded him to the Jaguars for a sixth-round pick in the offseason.
Jones is 18-24 as an NFL starter. He has appeared in two games in relief this season, completing 6 of 9 passes for 28 yards.
The Jaguars offense is already without wide receiver Christian Kirk, who suffered a season-ending broken collarbone on Oct. 27. Jacksonville has a 2 percent chance to make the playoffs, according to The Athletic’s Austin Mock.
