Former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has joined Hungarian club Ferencvaros on a loan deal from Werder Bremen.
The 29-year-old, who has not made an appearance for Werder this season, has joined the Budapest-based club on a one-year loan arrangement with an option to buy.
Keita joined Werder on a free transfer following his exit from Liverpool at the end of the 2022-23 season, but has played just five games for the club and started only once across one and a half seasons in Germany.
The Guinea international was suspended by Werder after he “chose not to travel” for their Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen in April. Keita refuted the accusation in a response on Instagram, claiming Werder sporting director Clemens Fritz was attempting to “tarnish” his reputation.
While that suspension ended for this season, he has yet to feature for the club.

The midfielder previously played in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, who sold him to Liverpool for £52.75million (now $65.3m) in 2018.
Keita endured an injury-plagued career with Liverpool and was restricted to only 13 appearances in all competitions in his final season at the club. He left Anfield having won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup across five seasons.
Ferencvaros are Hungary’s most successful club with 35 league titles and are second in the top flight, one point behind leaders Puskas Akademia with a game in hand.
