Don Lemon: 'I'm not a Democrat'

Former CNN pundit Don Lemon says he considers himself an independent but is supporting Vice President Kamala Harris for president this fall.

“I’m not a Democrat,” he said during an appearance on NewsNation’s “Dan Abram’s Live” Wednesday night. “Not a Democrat, not a Republican. I’m an independent, some, some political leanings that are conservative and some that are liberal, like most people.”

Lemon scoffed at the suggestion that he’s “not a Donald Trump fan,” saying he’s “a fan of the truth.”

He added, “and I think Donald Trump lies a lot, just like he is you know, he has been saying now that Democrats are responsible for language that’s inciting violence, when he has called for the Joint Chiefs to be executed, when he says Liz Cheney should face a military tribunal, when he says Hillary Clinton would be best handled by a second amendment person.”

Host Dan Abrams asked Lemon who he would be supporting for president this fall.

“Do I support Kamala Harris? I will say this, I support democracy,” the former news anchor said. “Kamala Harris is on the side of democracy.”

“Am I particularly a fan of hers just because she’s a Democrat? No, but the only two people in this race who have a chance of winning are Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, and so I am on the side of democracy,” he continued. “I support the person who believes in democracy, which is Kamala Harris.”

Lemon was fired by CNN in 2023 after a brief stint hosting a revamped morning news program on the channel, the brainchild of former president Chris Licht, who himself was ousted by the network’s parent company only months later.

The longtime television news personality has since launched a social media content creation channel and regularly posts commentaries on current events and the political news cycle online.

NewsNation is a cable news channel that, like The Hill, is owned by Nexstar Media Group.
