Charlamagne tha God sharply criticized President Biden, calling him the “donkey of the day” after the president briefly wore a Trump campaign hat at a Pennsylvania fire station.
“Donkey of the day for Thursday September 12th goes to President Joe Biden,” Charlamagne said on his show “The Breakfast Club.”
Biden was visiting a fire station in Shanksville, Pa. on Wednesday, the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, when he briefly put on someone’s Trump hat.
White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates said Biden spoke about the country’s unity after the attacks, calling for the country to return to said unity. As a gesture, Biden “gave a hat to a Trump supporter who then said that in the same spirit, POTUS should put on his Trump cap.”
The president has been criticized for briefly wearing the hat, following Tuesday’s presidential debate between former President Trump and Vice President Harris.
In his radio show Thursday, Charlamagne critiqued Biden for wearing the hat, given how close the election is going to be.
“This race can be swing by just the tiniest ration of votes, which don’t fare well for the Democrats, because Trump is going to challenge the results of the election. We know this. Don’t act surprised when this happens,” he said.
He later added that Democrats must turnout in this election at huge rates knowing Trump would contest a slim margin, adding that Biden’s show of bipartisanship is questionable given the close race.
“You call him a threat to democracy. Okay, if he’s a threat to democracy, why are you wearing paraphernalia that supports him being president in 2024?” Charlamagne said.
Trump’s campaign quickly jumped on the incident, thanking Biden for his support and saying Harris did so poorly in the debate that even Biden is joining Trump’s campaign.
On the show, Charlamagne pointed to the transition between Biden stepping aside and Harris becoming the party’s nominee. He echoed Harris’s campaign statement that “we’re not going back” and said Biden wearing the hat requires Democrats to keep him “in hiding.”
“Look, I’m all for bipartisan togetherness, okay, but not when you’re trying to win and election, and somebody please tell President Biden this isn’t the Republican Party he came up with. Okay, it’s MAGA,” he said, later adding, “Maybe President Biden thinks MAGA stands for Make America Geriatric Again.”
Charlamagne concluded his segment by telling Biden he should “move like a VP” for the remaining days until the election and “just be quiet.”
