While Rice was becoming just the first player to score two free kicks in a single Champions League knockout match, Inter were picking up a statement victory at the Allianz Arena.
The Italians champions arrived in Bayern Munich’s backyard, soaked up plenty of early pressure and broke the deadlock with their first shot on target of the match.
A clinical counter attack was finished off by a brilliant trivela finish from Lautaro Martinez after a smart assist from strike partner Marcus Thuram.
From there, Bayern pushed relentlessly for an equaliser and finally found it in the 85th minute when Thomas Muller, leaving at the end of the season, finished from close range.
But Inter soon restored their lead with another devastating counter attack. Substitute Davide Frattesi put the finishing touch to the breakaway to ensure Inter will take a lead back to San Siro for next Wednesday’s second leg.
