Amadou Onana set to miss Aston Villa's next few games with hamstring injury

Amadou Onana is set to miss Aston Villa’s upcoming games with a hamstring injury.

Onana was absent Villa’s Champions League defeat by Monaco on Tuesday after suffering a hamstring injury three days earlier against Arsenal.

Scans show Onana is expected to at least miss Villa’s upcoming matches against West Ham and Celtic in the Champions League.

Onana’s injury has left Unai Emery short of options in central midfield, with Ross Barkley (calf) and John McGinn (hamstring) having been unavailable in recent weeks.

Since joining from Everton in a club record £50million $64.6m deal, Onana has struggled for fitness, picking up an ankle and a previous hamstring injury earlier in the season. The 23-year-old has made 21 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring four goals.

Bogarde likely to come into Emery’s thinking

Lamare Bogarde, the 21-year-old midfielder, replaced Onana in the first half at The Emirates Stadium and, despite recieving interest from Championship teams who enquired about a potential loan, is now set to stay at Villa this month.

Bogarde’s versatility is regarded as an asset to Emery, having made his Premier League debut in August at right-back. Bogarde has also featured in central defence this terms and will remain a potential option in the position until Villa sign a replacement for Diego Carlos, who has an agreement in principle to join Fenerbahce. Loic Bade remains a potential replacement, with Villa and Sevilla still in talks over a fee.

Bogarde, however, views his natural position to be in midfield and will come into Emery’s thinking in the upcoming games.
